How to do NYE in dNB

1–2 minutes

I honestly can’t remember the last time I watched the ball drop to ring in the new year and there’s no chance I’m making it this year with a one-year-old in the house. But, if you’re looking for some of the best ways to celebrate this New Year’s Eve with a tasty beer or cocktail in your hand, look no further than Downtown New Bedford.

Mother Nature won’t be a factor this year as the city launches its first LED drone show in place of traditional fireworks. Additionally, enjoy live music, puppet shows, fire dancing, fire breathing, magic, and more throughout downtown. Events will take place between 5-8 p.m. followed by the drone show at 8:30 p.m.

The best place to view the drone show will be on Union Street. The street will be closed for pedestrian traffic only from 5-9 p.m. between Route 18 and South 6th Street.

Since you’ll already be downtown, there are also plenty of options to keep the party going well into the evening and into the new year.

Among the prime viewing spot of Union Street, you’re well within range of lots of top-tier options. Grab a bite and a locally brewed ale at Moby Dick Brewing Co. then head next door to PLAY Arcade for an all-day party. Pop across the street and head into Cultivator Shoals for one of the best cocktails in the city. Even more options await around the corner at Rose Alley Ale House and Cork Wine and Tapas.

If you’d rather have some space away from the larger crowds, head up the hill to Sixes & Sevens where it’s a party every night of the week, or grab a pint from the city’s best tap list at Pour Farm Tavern and boogie down to classic disco jams.

Don’t forget about the masquerade ball-themed celebration at Freestone’s City Grill as they ring in the new year from all across the world. And if you’re looking to dance the night away, shuffle on over to Last Round Bar & Grill.
