What do you get when the beer can delivery dude forgets to load that last pallet onto the truck? The most happening luau this side of the Pacific!

Break out your finest Hawaiian shirts and head on over to Hang Ten Harry’s Harrygansett Luau at Buzzards Bay Brewing on Sat. Feb. 23 from 4-7 p.m.

Take a break from the doldrums of winter and kick back with a tiki filled with beer, plenty of food, and rounds of Hula Hooping fun to celebrate the release of Harrygansett, a “fine-drinking hoppy blond brewed by your friendly neighborhood South Rhody Coast brewers, BuzzardGansett Bay Brewing.”

This happy little accident is named after Buzzards Bay brewmaster Harry Smith. It’s a byproduct of the long-time friendship between Buzzards Bay owner Bill Russel, Harry, and Narragansett Brewing Company’s Mark Hellendrung.

“Harry and I met Mark years and years ago in the usual way: slinging brews at consumers during some long-forgotten beer festival,” Bill said. “Since then we’ve become great friends (as Narragansett Bay and Buzzards Bay ought to be) and brewed a few beers together.”

With the little bit of beer left over from one of the latest canning runs, the Buzzards Bay team figured what better way to share the inheritance of some fresh, tasty suds than to throw a party? Not to mention that proceeds from Harrygansett will be donated to the Hope Fund, a nonprofit that funds education for vulnerable children.

Along with the beers on tap, Fancheezical will be serving up a special Spam Grilled Cheese plus the Blount Clam Shack will be slinging chowder. Newport trio The Z-Boys will be jamming out as you earn the title of Hula Hoop champ.

Follow along for the latest in southern New England craft beer!
