Six New England breweries rank among the world’s best as the 2025 World Beer Cup winners were announced Thursday evening in Indianapolis, Indiana.
A record-breaking 8,375 entries were submitted by 1,761 breweries and cideries from 49 nations. The competition awarded 349 medals across 112 beer and 5 cider categories, recognizing outstanding craftsmanship and innovation in brewing.
The following local breweries are traveling home from Indianapolis with some new bragging rights:
- Belgian-Style Dubbel – Gold: Size 6, Lost Shoe Brewing & Roasting Co., Marlborough, MA
- Specialty Saison – Silver: Sacred Tree, Phantom Farms Brewing, Cumberland, RI
- Wood- and Barrel-Aged Strong Stout – Silver: Elagabalus, Caius Farm Brewery, Branford, CT
- British-Style Imperial Stout – Silver: Fayston Maple Imperial Stout, Lawson’s Finest Liquids, Waitsfield, VT
- Gluten-Free Beer – Silver: Winter Lager, Orange Bike Brewing Co., Portland, ME
- Fruit Wheat Beer – Bronze: Samuel Adams Summer Ale, Boston Beer Co., Somerville, MA
Now in its 16th edition, the World Beer Cup continues to grow in prestige and participation, with 317 breweries entering for the first time this year. Popular categories included Juicy or Hazy IPA, West Coast-Style IPA, and German-Style Pilsener, reflecting current global trends in beer preferences.
The Brewers Association hosts the prestigious global competition for professional beer and cider makers alongside the Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America.
