5 ways to support bars and breweries this Dry January

Each year, more and more people are trying Dry January, the month-long sober period cutting back on alcohol consumption. I applaud all who cut back and always support the idea of mindful consumption. However, the timing of these “resets” isn’t particularly friendly to the food and beverage industry we all know and love.

January and February are historically the worst months of the year for bars, restaurants, and brewery taprooms. If you’re participating in Dry January but still want to support your favorite wet hangs, here are five easy ways to support them while sticking to your resolution.

1. Grab a bite to eat

Chances are, some of your favorite spots for a round of drinks also serve up some tasty food. Consider ordering some takeout or even stopping in for a bite and opt for a non-alcoholic beverage.

2. Give the N/A selections a try

Speaking of non-alcoholic options, lots of bars, restaurants, and taprooms are offering NA beers, hop water, or even mocktails. Give some a try and you might just find a new go-to drink for the regular rotation.

3. Splurge on some merch

You can never have too many brewery t-shirts and it might be a great time to catch a good deal on the holiday stock.

4. Take some beer for the road

Stout season is still in full swing, so your favorite taproom might release some big beers this month that will happily sit patiently on a shelf until you’re ready to crack it open in a few months.

5. Treat your future self

Pick up some gift cards now and it’s like you’re buying your drinks now and get to enjoy them later! This move can also pair well with any of the other previous options.
